Glen Ridge is a borough in Essex County NJ with an approximate population of 7,500. A legacy left to the town by its founders is gas lamps, in fact today Glen Ridge maintains 665 of them around town. For most of the nineteenth century there was a thriving industrial area in the ‘Toney’s Brook‘ area of town, including three water-powered mills that produced lumber, calico, pasteboard boxes and brass fittings. There was also a copper mine and a sandstone quarry on the north side of the brook. With the arrival of the Newark and Bloomfield Railroads, Glen Ridge began a transition to the suburban residential community full of stately homes that it is today. Glen Ridge is bordered by Bloomfield, Montclair and East Orange.
